At the beginning of this story, only one thing was certain—admission to the University of Ljubljana, School of Economics and Business. Everything else was still open.
We started by searching for an apartment, because the first goal was to find a place where life would be as easy as possible, with the right location and a good first impression—for both the son and his parents.
Then came all those things that quickly pile up when you move to a new city: the visa, finding a doctor and a dentist, getting the first information about how things work here, who to call, what needs to be arranged, and what makes the most sense to take care of first.
In short, all the things that become much easier when you have someone by your side who knows the local environment and can simplify the process.
The first person to relax was the mother, once she saw that everything was moving forward and that her son was in good hands. And he, although completely independent, quickly gained the feeling that he wasn’t alone here—and that he was truly welcome.
Today, everything feels much more settled. From time to time, we help with bills, rent, and practical questions. Sometimes it’s about where to go hiking, where to take a cycling trip, which restaurant is worth visiting, or where to repair a bicycle.
Just everyday life.
And that is exactly what matters most—that the initial uncertainty slowly transforms into a feeling of home.
